> Functionality

Qualification

Qualification provides evidence that the line is suitable for the selected service that is to be used on it.

  • Noise
  • Return loss
  • Insertion loss
  • Longitudinal balance
  • Bit rate evaluation
  • Crosstalk
Maintenance

More analytical and specialised tests are also provided for maintenance:

  • Impulsive noise
  • Micro-interruptions
  • Isolation
  • Spectral analysis of noise
  • Power Spectrum Density of the signal
  • TDR test to identify the location of faults
  • Analysis of the functionality of the baseband (POTS)
  • Spectrum analyser
  • Network analyser
> Features and Benefits

The ALT2000 can be used in different operating modes depending on the task and skill level of the user.
  • The Collection Mode test enables the user to automatically run a PASS/FAIL suite of tests that are necessary to qualify the copper pair.
  • The Single Mode test runs specific measurements over the correct band for the service you have chosen. The PASS/FAIL status is displayed with the results in numerical format.
  • The Spectrum Mode test is ideal for detailed investigations. It provides graphical results and automatically chooses the frequency range.
  • The Advanced test is used for manual selection of test type and measuring conditions.

> Applications

The ALT2000 features are the result of a combination of outstanding capabilities based on digital signal process and high performance analogue techniques.

Advanced Base and High band measurements

  • Spectrum Analyser enables you to view the noise or signal strength across the selected band. The Power Spectrum Density (PSD) function can be used for spectral policing.
  • Generator and Meter enables you to inject a signal into the line and then measure the response to that signal.
  • Network Analyser measures the level of echo signals produced by impedance mismatching.
  • White Noise Generator stresses the installation to test its tolerance to interference.
Results management

As with any test results, analysis is very important. The ALT2000 is supplied complete with utilities for connecting to a PC and analysing the results. Screen shots can be copied to a PC to illustrate results and test result files can be copied for inclusion in reports.

PC based facilities

When results files (.CSV files) have been copied to a PC they can then be processed using a macro spreadsheet that is supplied. The results can then be viewed as tables or as graphs. The masks used in deciding whether a test has been passed or failed can be edited by the user. They can also be uploaded to the ALT2000 to create the user's own test templates.

> TDR and DMM

Time Domain Reflectometer

The high performance design of the TDR module enables the user to identify faults up to a maximum range of 10 km.  It also has a 4 wire setting, to find problems caused by coupling and crosstalk.  Display settings make it easy to analyse the shape of the trace in detail: zoom, shift, save, shape comparison, numeric indications...

Digital Multimeter

With the ALT2000 you can measure Voltage, Resistance, Capacitance, Insulation and Current across the connectors and also between each connector and earth (ground).
