he convergence of Core, Metro and Access networks is driving the migration from packet and circuit networks to Ethernet. 

The Aurora Tango Gigabit Ethernet module has a comprehensive set of functions. It verifies that Ethernet installations can provide a level of service equivalent to technologies such as Frame Relay, ATM or E1/T1.

Aurora Tango Gigabit Ethernet, a very competitive tester, has been specifically designed to measure the performance of the network to verify that it meets the SLA. Service providers and customers can use Aurora Tango to quickly, easily and efficiently ensure that all parties are providing or receiving the quality of performance agreed.

Aurora Tango Gigabit Ethernet is part of a family of modular hand-held testers. It has been designed for quick verification of metropolitan networks, ensuring the operation of Ethernet links, end-to-end applications and the provision of Gigabit Ethernet Service Level Agreements. To do this it uses a comprehensive range of features:

  • Traffic monitoring and troubleshooting
There are also modules available for ADSL/POTS, ADSL/ISDN, SHDSL, and ISDN.

Modular architecture
Aurora Tango consists of a PDA as the user interface, the UNITE which is the interface between the PDA and the test module which is specific to each technology.
 
> Applications

Physical test
Aurora Tango provides field support for copper cable installations. When testing a copper cable Aurora Tango can measure the cable length, check pair or polarity swap and perform a BERT as well.

Aurora Tango can also perform measurements on optical fibres such as optical power and physical BERT.

Link test
Aurora Tango provides RFC 2544 compliant tests which means that it implements the test functions necessary to check the performance of Gigabit Ethernet networks. It is also compliant with RFC 2819 in order to analyse the MAC frames properly.

Service test
Outstanding features such as loopback mode for IP packets and Ethernet frames enable Aurora Tango to simulate network conditions in full duplex mode from the application server up to the CPE if necessary.
