Trend Communications is announcing the new MC2+ hand-held tester, designed to troubleshoot and maintain equipment on ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ lines.

This light, portable tester is very robust and has been designed to be the perfect tool for typical outdoor working conditions. MC2+ can be either battery or mains electricity powered, giving total flexibility for most testing sites and situations.

The MC2+ can operate in two modes, stand-alone and hosted. In stand-alone mode the tester automatically performs a sequence of tests to verify the ADSL connection, and its LEDs show concise information. In hosted mode the MC2+ operates connected to a PC and obtains quantitative information on the connection.

You can create, store and retrieve up to 8 testing configurations. The tester automatically chooses a configuration to match the network to be tested, saving you precious setup time. Not only can you set up your own configurations, but you can request preset configurations to be supplied from the factory.

Autonomous and Simple

The MC2+ is a hand-held and battery-powered tester. It is designed to be carried by field technicians and used for testing from almost everywhere without worrying about having a laptop or a connection to the mains. With MC2+ you can verify several connections from the street cabinet or the MDF at the central office without having to visit the home of every subscriber.

Stand-alone or Hosted

The MC2+ can be used in stand-alone or hosted mode. When used in stand-alone mode it performs a sequence of tests that automatically verify the service. The hosted mode enables you to connect the tester to a PC. This mode is useful to get quantitative details of any measurement, and in hosted mode you can also customize the stand-alone mode.

ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+

ADSL is continuously being improved and adapted to specific customer needs: G.lite allows easy installation without splitters, and the recently released ITU-T Recommendations for ADSL2, RE-ADSL2 and ADSL2+ offer better performance in terms of bandwidth and range.

You can use one single MC2+ to test ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+, because the tester supports all the recent ITU-T and ANSI standards.

Trend's MC2+ tests all the network layers automatically, in one single test. You can verify the customer equipment (Modem/Router, PC), the link and
connectivity to the network.

Local loop Verification

With the help of Trend's MC2+ you can quickly access information regarding the state of the local loop copper pair. The information indicates whether the pair is disconnected or broken at the customer's home, the distribution box or the street cabinet.

Connectivity Verification

Connectivity is checked at every layer. The physical layer is checked to find out the state of the copper pair and the connection to the DSLAM. The link layer's ATM PVC and connectivity with the PPP peer is checked, and the IP layer's end-to-end connection is also verified.

Customer Equipment Verification

You can use the MC2+ to emulate the customer's equipment, modem or router. This way you can quickly detect any failure in the equipment's operation. You can also easily find out if the PC has a configuration error as well.
