" Cost Effective Solution for Mass Broadband Roll-Out"
Copper ¦ ADSL ¦ ADSL2 ¦ ADSL2+ ¦ G.dmt ¦ G.lite ¦ ATM ¦ PPP ¦ IP Ping

The MC2+ is a cost-effective tester for ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ installation and maintenance, especially designed for mass broadband roll-out. This tester is fully autonomous and extremely lightweight, and has a robust design that makes it the best choice for field engineers. The ease of use and all the automatic features of this testers are valuable when carrying out repetitive tasks in telephone exchanges.

There are two different models of MC2+:

The MC2+ Display can test network layers one by one to verify that everything works as expected. The tester first looks for DC power (ISDN and POTS), and then tries training with the DSLAM, starting a PPP session. Finally, the tester checks the IP layer by sending a ping to a remote address. The user can then quickly check the test results indicated by LEDs, a line identification ringer and an LCD screen.

The MC2+ Display includes a one-button result display, line identification ringer, downstream noise margin history, and several other features that greatly improve usability.

> One-Button Result Display

Trend's MC2+ Display Trend MC2+ efficiently processes all the relevant data for your DSL connection and displays the result on its easy-to-read LCD screen.

The DSL Status and Modulation Type screen provides information on the progress of the connection, and any potential issue can be quickly detected just by checking the Bit Rate, Attainable Bit Rate or Channel Utilization screens.

The Noise Margin, Noise Margin History, Attenuation and Transmit Power result screens provide accurate link diagnostics. The IP layer analysis is particularly productive, offering detailed WAN IP and IP Ping results.

The current status of the DSL connection is always available, and it can be used to quickly check connection with remote peers. Once the tester has achieved Showtime, all other results become available. They offer quantitative information on the connection, and any potential issue can easily be identified and solved. The LEDs of the tester provide complementary information about the progress of the connection, both before and after Showtime.

> New Features

POTS/ISDN Line Identification Ringer

The line identification ringer of MC2+ confirms connection to the correct POTS or ISDN telephone line.

A Main Distribution Frame (MDF) may have thousands of subscriber lines, all terminating in similar connection blocks. It is very easy to make a mistake and accidentally connect a cable to the wrong MDF connection.

The new ringer of MC2+ makes line identification easier than ever before. The connection is confirmed if the tester rings when the technician calls to the destination.

Result Storage and Upload to a PC

You can use the test result files of MC2+ to compare them with results obtained by different devices on different networks, or performed on the same system but in different conditions. Most companies store their test results for reference or to show them to customers if needed.

MC2+ can store up to 16 result sets, and these can be easily exported to a PC for further processing.

Internal Battery Charging

Trend's MC2+ Display is equipped with batteries that can be charged without using an external charger. This, of course, improves the usability of the tester and makes things much easier for field engineers.

> Application: Testing in MDFs

The personnel responsible for ADSL service provision in large MDFs needs to make dozens of new connections every day, and the demand is increasing. While the installation of new tie cables is normally a routine operation, the possibility of making mistakes is real, and even more so when the workload is increasing.

MC2 Plus in action

This is why technicians must test the connections they have made, to ensure high quality, customer satisfaction and business revenues. This personnel is focused on high-productivity wiring operations, and in some cases they may have only limited knowledge on how ADSL works. So, using conventional ADSL test equipment with detailed test results is usually not possible. Less-experienced personnel need an easy-to-use tester that can quickly confirm the quality of their work, with minimum training or no training at all.

Trend's MC2+ meets all these requirements, with features like Line Identification, where the service can be checked just by making a phone call with the on-board ringer.

> Field Tester for DSL Services

Trend MC2+ is hand-held, battery-powered, and extremely easy to configure. It is designed to be carried by field technicians and used for testing anywhere, from the customer premises to the exchange, without worrying about having a laptop or an external power supply.

This tester can also replace equipment such as DSL modems or routers installed in the customer premises. This is very useful when testing the subscriber network. The configuration and operation of routers or modems can be checked in a snap.
