Victoria Combo NG 2.5G is a high performance tool for testing Next Generation SDH/SONET up to 2.5 Gbit/s. All the features needed to speed up the installation and maintenance of new data-aware SDH networks in a compact, user-friendly battery-operated tester.

This new test module enables you to test Ethernet over SDH/SONET metropolitan networks that use General Frame Protocol (GFP) mapping, Higher-Order and Lower-Order Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) pipes, and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) bandwidth management.

You can manage Victoria Combo remotely from a computer via a TCP/IP wired or wireless connection. The tester can be operated by using the touch-screen, mouse, or keyboard either out in the field using battery power or indoors using a mains electrical supply.

The RFC 2544 defines a test as being made up of multiple trials. Each trial provides a piece of data, for example the loss rate at a particular input frame rate. There may therefore be many trials in a test - with the device set up in different ways. 

If a customer is already having problems with a network, flooding it with test traffic will only add to the problem; in this case it would be more appropriate to monitor the pattern of real network traffic.

The verification of the electrical connections and cabling errors is performed in a process called wiremap testing. Tests on cabling can go further using testers with more sophisticated features such as the ability to measure crosstalk, capacitance, resistance or TDR.

The new cable categories, Cat. 6 or Cat. 7 are capable of supporting 1000BASE-T. Aurora Tango can be used to test older cables, such as Cat 5. A decision can then be made as to whether the cables need to be upgraded or a new cable system needs to be installed.
