@ AuroraTango - a growing family

Trend's easy to use PDA and One Button ADSL/POTS  tester now has ADSL/ISDN and ISDN test capability

HIGH WYCOMBE (UK) - AuroraTango, launched by Trend Communications in October 2001, is the ideal tool for all ADSL service providers and contractors. Its modular design and ease-of-use makes it suitable for use by both Tier Three technicians and Tier One technicians.New at Cebit is the ADSL/ISDN and the individual ISDN test modules. These new enhancements make Tango an ideal multi-service test platform.

Modes
You can use Tango in PDA mode using the PDA, UNITE and a Test Module together), or in One Button Mode (using the UNITE and Test Module only).
PDA
When connected to Tango, the PDA can be used to display more detailed test analyses and test results (PDA Mode). Test reports can be generated together with detailed customer information. The results can be stored, retrieved and printed using the most common formats via the optional printer.
UNITE
The UNITE is the heart of Tango. It is the interface between the Test Module and/or the PDA and contains the processor LED, test and print buttons.
Test Modules
The PDA is used to set up tests on any of the Test Modules. The Test Module together with the UNITE can then be used to perform tests without the PDA (One Button Mode).Separate Test Modules for ADSL over POTS and ADSL over ISDN, using the ADI or Alcatel chipsets, are available. You can use the One Button Mode for quick services checks. The test results are displayed by the Pass/Fail LED indicator. The results can be printed via the serial port to the optional printer or transferred to the PDA for uploading to a PC.

@ Victoria Remote Graphical User Interface
Control a Victoria remotely through the Inter-Intranet

BARCELONA (Spain) -Victoria STM16 has an advanced remote control application that makes it possible for many users to control testers through TCP/IP
Trend has introduced Victoria RemoteGUI, an advanced remote control system that lets a technician simultaneously manage multiple Victoria testers across different TCP/IP network segments for SDH/SONET/PDH testing up to 2.5 Gbit/s.

Maintaining the expanding networks in the traditional way, with many senior field service technicians, is both time consuming and expensive. Usually, only a few people in a centralised location possess the knowledge of network structure and technology. For these reasons, remote control is an important requirement for test and measurement applications.
Simple and efficient
The Victoria test unit is connected to a PC running the server element. The field service technician, running the client element on a remote PC, is able to take control of the test functions including configuration. From a single client, the technician can communicate to multiple testers attached to one or more server elements.
Avoid unnecessary travelling
All the testers are easily accessible from anywhere in the world. RemoteGUI also improves the test coordination. Different centres in separate locations can independently collate and analyse measurements made by one or more Victoria testers. The customer’s investment is protected, as adding new testers is quick and easy. There are always new remote control application scenarios, from one single instrument up to a large network of multiple Victoria testers.
A big step forward!
  • Architecture based on the Internet
  • Scalable. From one instrument to a complex network of instruments
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use window-based user interface

@ The new generation of ATM Switches
Now we are starting to see ATM switches at 50Gbit/s and scale up

BOSTON (US) - A new generation of ATM is coming, aiming to provide new carrier services end2end where quality is a must, and helping to consolidate the current network structures.
In the access network ATM is present in a vast majority of installations, ADSL in residential user environments and more recently SHDSL for professional environments providing voice and data using AAL1, AAL2 and AAL5. In the core network a new generation of ATM switches  has been developed for carriers in order to extend their existing networks and build new infrastructures to support Frame Relay, ATM, Internet and UMTS Installations.A year ago, routing vendors believed that there would be no need for ATM enabled switches to have a larger capacity than 40Gbit/s. Now we are starting to see the availability of switches that start at 50Gbit/s and scale up from there and provide new multi-service capability.  The new ATM multi-service switches have performances up to 450Gbit/s FDX switching capacity, STM1 to STM64 and Ethernet I/F, MPLS, IP routing capacities and have been announced by Alcatel, Lucent, Nortel and Marconi

Informed Opinion
"Since the downturn in capital spending began, carriers have been looking for ways to extend their existing networks, and that means building on ATM and frame relay installations, at least for the foreseeable future.... The ATM switches, the demise of which was predicted in 2000, have gained a whole new lease on life.”
(*)The Great ATM Switch Blitz Light Reading  (Jan 2002)

I'm sure that ATM and IP will coexist for some time; indeed, that was the thrust of what I was trying to say. Coexistence isn't an option, it's a necessity: The carriers may be inclined to keep ATM as a dominant element in their infrastructure, but there's no sign of a similar sentiment by enterprises.”
(**) Fred Knight,  Editor of Business Communications Review (Feb 2002)

@ New  Aurora Presto adds Autotest, G.SHDSL and TDR
Trend´s multilayer solution to cost-effective DSL roll-out

HIGH WYCOMBE (UK) -  AuroraPresto adds TDR/DMM physical layer testing, comprehensive G.SHDSL modem test functionality and Full Router Replacement mode to enhance its market leading DSL test capabilities.

AuroraPresto is the most comprehensive xDSL service tester available on the market today. Offering test capability at the Physical Layer, DSL layer, ATM layer, PPP layer and IP layer, the AuroraPresto has been adopted worldwide as the defacto standard for multilayer DSL installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

One Button MultiLayer AUTOTEST
The AuroraPresto is a comprehensive tester providing exceptional multilayer test capability. To allow installation engineers to benefit from the complete range of AuroraPresto test capability, a new profile based Autotest feature has been launched. This feature allows comprehensive test scenarios to be saved as test profiles by experienced users, then later utilised as part of a 'one button' test by installation engineers. Automatic session storage and results print out are provided if required.
TDR/DMM
Fundamentally a TDR is a very simple instrument; a pulse is transmitted down a cable, which is then reflected back from any impedance mismatch that is encountered. The impedance mismatch may be caused by cable problems such as bad connections, a fault or simply by the end of the cable. The reflected pulse is sampled by the TDR and displayed as a waveform on the screen of the instrument. The AuroraPresto uses a graphical display to show the transmitted pulse and reflections that can then be interpreted as specific faults on the copper pair.
G.SHDSL
The majority of early G.SHDSL applications are two wire data applications using existing ATM / IP infrastructure from the DSLAM into the backbone network. The key to cutting the time spent deploying and maintaining G.SHDSL services lies with effective problem resolution. Effective problem resolution in turn depends on accurate fault location. The AuroraPresto provides comprehensive G.SHDSL test capability in addition to its already comprehensive ATM / IP test capabilities.
Full Router Replacement Mode
AuroraPresto is unique in allowing users to completely replace the customer modem and monitor throughput statisticsat the ATM layer. To enhance this test functionality, the AuroraPresto can now also completely replace the functionality of a customer Router and monitor LAN / WAN throughput statistics.

@ FlexaNet remote Monitoring  through TCP/IP and  SNMP

FlexaNet is an ideal solution for distributed test and measurement

BARCELONA (Spain) - FlexaNet is a distributed monitoring solution based on Network Computing standards (SNMP, Java, SQL) to monitor networks based on SDH and PDH or MPEG video distribution.

FlexaNet is an ideal solution for distributed test and measurement providing a number of services for fault and performance management with non-stop 24/356 tracing capabilities. Web-based GUI enables distributed access to the results from anywhere, at anytime, with a simple Java-enabled Internet browser. Central managment of the monitoring resources is also possible, including topological control, summarizing real-time status of all the circuits, reporting, etc. FlexaNet is a vendor independent system which can be integrated in SNMP platforms to verify the provision of telecom services. Network Audit—The interconnection of networks, together with the appearance of new operators who use leased resources, has increased the need for contracts that define the Service Level Agreements (SLA). A good SLA must be transparent, precise and open for revision, so that it can accurately reflect the rights and responsibilities of both sides. It can provide real-time auditing of the network for Bandwidth providers and infrastructure owners.Differentiation—The most advanced operators know how to stand out from their competitors and attract new clients by offering them tools for verifying the Service Level Agreements continuously and without intrusions.

FlexaNet fits the requirements of several businesses

    1. Integrated monitoring of all the circuits of an operator using plant from many manufacturers, controlled in islands.
    2. Supervision of interconnection agreements between two independent operators through a neutral system.
    3. Third Parties who lease infrastructures from service providers and operators and need real-time information on the leased resources, but do not have access to the monitoring and performance control or inventory systems of the providers.
    4. Service availability providing information on the hired circuits for the preferred clients of an operator.
